Valerie Saw

Background

Miss Valerie Saw is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon who specialises in laser refractive surgery, cataract and lens implant surgery, dry eye and corneal transplantation. She is an expert in contact lens-related problems, keratoconus, red eye and emergency eye care.

Recognised by her peers for her expertise and experience, she is the first female president of the British Society for Refractive Surgery (BSRS), and also an examiner and committee member for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ (RCO) Certification in Laser and Refractive Surgery.

She conducted her medical training at the University of Sydney, where she received the University Medal for coming first place on the Honours list. She has been trained at the highest level in complex corneal and cataract surgery, having spent 4 years in advanced specialisation at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She was appointed substantive Consultant in Cornea and Cataract surgery at Moorfields in 2010 and commenced at Imperial College Healthcare Trust in 2015.

Miss Valerie Saw has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Moorfields Eye Hospital Research Medal, the Oxford Ophthalmic Congress Founder’s Cup and an ARVO Travel Grant. Ms Saw is a widely published academic researcher in the field of corneal and cataract surgical techniques and inflammatory eye conditions. She also takes an active role in medical education as a clinical lecturer at University College London as an RCO Examiner and as an international and nationally renowned speaker.
